Really one of our best times with our kids!!!!

Times like this one are making you very proud....Greek traditional music and dancing aren't as easy as you see. You must know the rhythm, you must know the exact steps, and most of all .....

you must LOVE IT...!!!!

...and today we felt more than proud seeing our kids dressed and and danced all those Greek traditional songs.

Now let me introduce you, the famous Greek

"Listarho Vagelis"

(I'm very sorry for my relatives at the US, for not understanding what "Listarhos Vagelis" means...Back at 1820-1830 there was a man who was very famous and his name was "Listarhos Davelis".

Lets get serious now.

Vagelis came on stage to give his performance.

...and he did so....
..with so many ways....
...all the kids where great....
...and started to do what his teacher taught him to do...
...fancy things... ...this is the most popular Greek traditional dance....

Katerina's second round...

After 4 or 5 dances they change their clothes and dance some more. 

Now they dance some songs from "Serres".

"Serres" is a city at the northen side of Greece. 

Just check Katerina's feet... She's not  touching the ground!!!!!!!!!

Here you can see Katerina first dance!(Look at Katerina's lower left side. You'll see Vagelis waiting for his turn)She is wearing clothes from "Zakynthos" (Did I say Zakynthos? Now tell me, ... is that a coincidence or what?).

Well, she is dancing traditional dance from Zakynthos area too.


You see that in some of that pictures, they are holding their heads or raising their hands upwards, well the lyrics of one of the songs they were danced had to do with these moves.

....Old Photos From Greek School?

I found a very-very-very old photograph of two kids somewhere in Greece.

You can see how old and in what condition I found it, but you can still see the two kids well.....I've tried to recognize what year was then when that picture has taken, but ..... with no luck...

Yep, that's Katerina and Vagelis dressed up for their "School Dance Festival".

At the end of every  School year, every kid that took dance classes (during the school year) will dance in front of all of the parents, grandparents and everyone who likes to see them.

There are kids from the first grade of school ...and all dancing Greek traditional dances all over Greece.

(There are a lot of deferent dances all around Greece).
This is my happy-lovely family. This is a picture I took when we were waiting for the festival to begin.

Do I have to tell you that we (me and Soula) were anxious to see our kids doing all that things tha they taught all this year?

There is no doubt bout it...!!!

Did I mention his shoes?

Well, take a closer look at the pair of shoes he is wearing...

We call them "Tsarouhia".

Those kind of shoes Greek people used to wear at about 1800 ac.

It's our traditional shoes.
Some of you you can understand what Vagelis is doing, but some of you have no Idea.

Let me tell you about it.

When they used to wear these kinds of shoes, and walked around, there was dust on the tassels (I'm sorry if that's not the right word....) in front of the shoes. So they hit these tassels with their hands just to take out the dust.

Now it is a great dance display

(something is telling me that this is not the right word, but I hope you got the message).
Here are Katerina's friends.

They all go to the same class and the girl right behind of her with the one that is at her left are the her best friends.
And here are Vagelis friends. The kid with the black sunglasses wearing a hat, is one of his best friends.

School celebrations

The school celebrations of the end of the school year are already started.
First was George's school.He had to dance some Greek traditional dances so we went there to see him.
He was great... and very handsome with these Greek traditional clothes. 

I don't know if you noise it, but he is the tallest of all the kids in his school.

Yep, he is 1,74m tall!!!

(He is tallest than me .... but don't tell it to anyone... Okay?)

Here are dancing "Hasaposerviko". It is a kind of Greek kind of music and dancing.


After all that dancing there was a play that George's teacher wrote for the children. All the kids were great as actors. George played  "Zeus" the ancient Greek King of Gods. He was very funny (I forgot to tel you that the play was a comedy. It was a parody of some popular old myths and fairy tales) 
That girl really slap George, and for the truth he was slapped 4 times from deferent girls!!!!... it was part of his role. 
Well done George.Even if the school is not over yet, I wish you a good and restful summer because next year you will be in High school!!! BIG BOY!!!!!!!!!
